TAJÊ member Şemê Remo: We will break the chain of slavery
Speaking about Iranian regime’s misogynous policies, TAJÊ member Şemê Remo says they will break the chain of slavery by struggling.
The protests that began following the killing of Mahsa Amini by Iranian morality police continue to spread. The Iranian people have taken to the streets in many Iranian cities to protest the regime by chanting the “Jin, jiyan, azadî (English: Women, Life, Freedom)” slogan. In addition, people all around the world and in four parts of Kurdistan have held protests against the Iranian regime. The Yazidi Free Women’s Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Azadiya Jinên Êzîdî-TAJÊ) member Şemê Remo spoke to NuJINHA about the ongoing protests and said, “The male-dominant mentality ignoring women is the same as the mentality of ISIS. Both ignore women.”
“Women suffer from the same cruelty”
Commemorating Mahsa Amini and Shiler Rasouli, Şemê Remo said, “We, as Yazidi women, feel badly for the killing of these two women, like all women around the world. We know that women suffer from the same cruelty. Before the edicts (genocides, massacres), we suffered from slavery and were not liberated. Women have always lived under the control of the patriarchal mentality. After the last edict (the genocide committed against Yazidi by ISIS), we got to know the philosophy of Öcalan (Abdullah Öcalan) and found the way to freedom.”
“Women are enslaved in the name of religion”
Emphasizing that the Iranian regime enslaves women in the name of religion, Şemê Remo said, “In the name of religion, society is enslaved in the person of women. Why was Mahsa Amini killed in Tehran? The killing of Mahsa Amini by the morality police is a crime against humanity. Men cannot raise their hands to women because women determine their own standards and lifestyle.”
“The ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ slogan will bring freedom”
“The male-dominant mentality ignores women while the philosophy of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan liberates women,” Şemê Remo said, “The philosophy of Öcalan shows the way for women to be free. He says society cannot be liberated without women’s liberation. The ‘Jin,Jiyan, Azadi’ slogan changed in Rojhelat Kurdistan will bring freedom to women.”
“We support the struggle of Iranian women”
Underlining that women are subjected to violence all around the world, she said, “Everyone should know that the mentality of those who kill women are the same as the mentality of ISIS. We, as women, will destroy these mentalities. We, as Yazidi women, support the struggle of the women in Iran and Rojhelat. We will break the chain of slavery by struggling.”
