Women participating in the march held in Shengal to protest the isolation imposed upon Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan said, “We will continue our protests until the isolation is ended.”
The people of Shengal held a march in the Sînunê town of Shengal under the leadership of the Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) and the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly to protest the aggravated isolation imposed upon Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. The people held photographs of Abdullah Öcalan and flags of the Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement (TAJÊ).
‘An immediate meeting should be arranged’
After the march, a press statement was issued. “As all people of Shengal, we demand an immediate meeting be arranged for Abdullah Öcalan and his lawyers. We should be informed about his situation,” the statement said.
‘We will continue our protests’
In her speech, TAJÊ member Zehrê Şemo pointed to the aggravated isolation imposed upon Abdullah Öcalan and said, “We, as the mothers of Shengal, marched for the freedom of our leader. This isolation is an isolation against all of us. As Yazidi women, we see the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan as our freedom. Silence against isolation is the silence against the freedom of people. We will continue our protests until a meeting is arranged with Abdullah Öcalan. We will continue our protests until the isolation is ended.”
‘We demand his freedom’
Meyan Salih, another member of the TAJÊ, also made a speech and said, “We, as the mothers of Shengal, demand Abdullah Öcalan’s freedom. Everyone should know very well that we will keep holding protests until Abdullah Öcalan becomes free.”
